Saudi Arabia plans to produce Pfizer, AstraZeneca vaccines in Kingdom


(MENAFN) According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Osama Al-Zamil, Saudi Arabia is aiming to check out its deals with Pfizer and AstraZeneca to produce vaccines in the Kingdom with further enterprises to localize the pharmaceutical industries and to turn into a regional center for these companies.

To set the foundations for the produce of viral and genetic vaccines in the Kingdom, the Saudi Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the King Abdullah International Center for Medical Research (KIMAR), and the Pfizer Scientific Foundation inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

The MoU was inked during the activities of the Riyadh Summit for Medical Technology 2021, also includes offering technical support for the foundation of a human stem cell platform.

Al Arabiya also Alzamil as saying that the ministry plans to transfer technology and localize vaccine industries and production platforms to produce, and provide vaccines in what is called CDMO, as a center for building suitable industrial clusters in this sector.
