Ex-Algerian President Bouteflika passes away at 84


(MENAFN) A declaration from the presidency said as quoted by the state-run television ENTV that ex-Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika passed away on Friday at age 84.

In 1963, Bouteflika was assigned as Algeria’s foreign minister.

He took part in the 1999 presidential poll and gained a crushing victory.

The former president served as president for four straight terms till April 2019.

During April 2013, Bouteflika experienced a cerebrovascular accident, which cut his mobility and presidential activity. He had ever since made few public appearances.
