Turkey to implement 1st unit of Akkuyu nuclear power plant by May 2023


(MENAFN) The first unit of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant is going to be implemented by May 2023, Turkey's president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

He further highlighted the importance of nuclear energy for the country’s future, at a mass inaguration ceremony in the southern Mersin province.

Erdogan also stated that "I would like to congratulate those who contributed to the acquisition and construction of this strategic investment in Akkuyu."

Turkey and Russia inked a deal for the building of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant on May 12, 2010. Turkey's first nuclear power plant in going to be built of four reactors with a total installed power of 4,800 megawatts.
