(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka: Bangladesh has been moved to amber from the United Kingdom's red list, announced Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on September 17.
The foreign minister made the announcement on social media during his visit to the UK.
As coronavirus infection rates are in a declining curve amid rapid vaccination rollout across Bangladesh, the UK has considered to move the country from its red list.
Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen's constant efforts to convince the British government to lift travel restrictions on Bangladesh has also played significant role in the latest development.
The move will allow about six thousand British residents stranded in Bangladesh currently to return back to the UK without hotel quarantine upon arrival as travellers from amber countries only have to quarantine at home.
The news also comes as a relief to hundreds of students who are waiting to get back to their studies at universities in the UK.
Without hotel quarantine, their expenses will reduce significantly, by BDT 3 lac.
