CAIRO, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- The League of Arab States (LAS) warned Friday about the danger of the Israeli occupation authorities implementing a land settlement project in the occupied city of Jerusalem and Area C, with the aim of annexing the remaining Palestinian land in Jerusalem.
This came in a report by LAS about the plans of the Israeli occupation authorities to Judaize the occupied city of Jerusalem through the settlement of real estate rights and land registration in the city.
It underlined that it is a step to confiscate about 60 percent of the property in the city, which is a part of forced displacement.
The implementation of the settlement law and the activation of the Absentees' Property Law would grant Israel the right to control all lands and real estate that had been seized by settlement associations in the past, the report stated.
The occupation began implementing the project on the areas of Beit Hanina, Shuafat, Sheikh Jarrah, Sur Baher, Hizma and Abu Dis by asking Jerusalemites to quickly register their property, it said.
The report added that imposing high taxes along with expenses in difficult economic conditions may cause Jerusalemites to refrain from paying these amounts to register their properties, which will make it easier for the occupation to confiscate them through the so-called Absentees' Property Law, meaning that 12 percent of the area of Jerusalem will remain for Palestinians and 88 percent for Jews.
The Absentees' Property Law was approved by the Knesset in 1950, which legitimizes the appropriation of land along with property belonging to displaced Palestinians. (end)
