Afghan central bank takes at least USD12M cash 'seized from pre-gov't officials'


(MENAFN) As stated by The Afghan central bank, it took over USD12 million in cash established from the inhabitants of previous administration officials, as well as Amrullah Saleh, Vice Leader.

The Taliban controlled Afghanistan in mid-August, and have stated a temporary administration ran by the acting Prime Minister, Hassan Akhund.

The extensive seizure led many important administration officials, with President Ashraf Ghani, to escape Afghanistan.

Moreover, a report by Da Afghanistan Bank said it also acquired "a number of gold bricks most of which were found at Amrullah Saleh’s residence."

The announcement also informed that the taken cash and gold have been given to the assets since the new administration is "committed to transparency in all fields."

In addition to it, the "purpose of keeping the said amount of cash and gold, and how they kept them, hasn’t been known yet."
