Italian envoy opens eco-friendly design exhibition at Msheireb

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ambassador of Italy to Qatar H E Alessandro Prunas yesterday inaugurated the“3CODESIGN - 3R: Reduce, Recycle, Reuse” exhibition at the Doha Design District (DDD), Msheireb Downtown.

The exhibition, a project by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation curated by Silvana Annicchiarico, aims to connect design and sustainability. The event will run from today until September 29.

“It is good to see people gathered, and I think this is the first event we are hosting since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful to Doha Design District and Msheireb Properties for hosting us. This exhibition is something we are proud of, and it is our way to show that Italy is very committed to sustainability and fighting climate change,” Prunas said.

The exhibition showcases a selection of objects that have been recycled or made of sustainable materials. The exhibition will travel three years worldwide from Prague, Doha, Shenzen, and Hong Kong.

“This year, Italy is hosting the G20 and has put strong emphasis and focus of its presidency on sustainability. We are also committed with our British colleagues to co-preside the COP26 (2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference). Today we want to show how designers and artists can contribute to sustainability and fight climate crises,” the Italian envoy added.

Meanwhile, ecosocial artist Luca Gnizio, whose works are also being displayed in the exhibition, said,“I am happy to be in this incredible exhibition. It shows how Italy is promoting going green. It shows we can use the main resource today, which is waste. This exhibition will show the future of this mission.”

Gnizio, an emerging Italian designer, aims to use his work to transform every item of industrial waste into a precious commodity and a means of ethical education. He stated that“we can really recycle anything if we like.”

In a statement, Eng. Ali Al Kuwari, the acting CEO, Msheireb Properties, stated:“We are delighted to host the“3CODESIGN - 3R: Reduce, Recycle, Reuse” travelling exhibition at Doha Design District, which addresses the important aspect of environmental sustainability that has a direct impact on our communities and the planet. We thank the Italian Embassy and the artists for this initiative. We are confident that our joint effort will further strengthen awareness of the need to embrace environment-friendly practices in our daily lives.

"Msheireb Properties is committed to promoting sustainability and places it at the heart of everything we do to support the goals of the Qatar National vision 2030, which prioritises sustainable development.”

The exhibition is open from Saturday to Thursday, 10 am to 10 pm, and Fridays from 3 pm to 10 pm.
