7 soldiers martyred, 5 terrorists killed in South Waziristan clash


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Seven soldiers were martyred and four others were injured, while five terrorists were killed in a clash in South Waziristan tribal district on Wednesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intense clash happed between the security forces and terrorists in Asman Manza area of South Waziristan. It said the security forces conducted intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the area on reported presence of terrorists.

Five terrorists were killed in the operation.“During intense exchange of fire seven soldiers embraced martyrdom,” the ISPR said.

The security forces cordoned off the area after the clash and a search operation was launched to eliminate any other terrorist found in the area.

The clash in South Waziristan happened a day after two terrorists were killed in an IBO by the security forces in Dattakhel area of North Waziristan.

According to ISPR, the security forces conducted the IBO after receiving credible information about the presence of terrorists in the area. It said two terrorists were killed during the intense exchange of fire between the two sides.

The security forces also recovered weapons and ammunition from the terrorists' hideout. A search operation was also launched in the area. However, there were no reports about any arrests.

Terrorist attacks on security forces in Waziristan region have increased recently which have created an atmosphere of concern among the people. The security forces have also stepped up IBOs to target terrorists.

On September 10, a terrorist was killed and six others were arrested during an IBO in North Waziristan. According to the ISPR, the security forces conducted the operation in Hassukhel area of Mir Ali tehsil.

On September 07, two soldiers were martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in North Waziristan.

According to the ISPR, the security forces were conducting an area clearance operation in Dosali area when they were attacked with an IED. The martyred soldiers were identified as Sepoy Zia Akram, 25, resident of Muzaffarabad, and Sepoy Musawwar Khan, 20, resident of Bajaur tribal district.

Following the IED attack, the Pakistan Army troops cordoned off the area to apprehend the terrorists involved in the attack. The ISPR said that during the intense exchange of fire, one of the terrorists, who was trying to flee, got killed.
