EU remain in dilemma over engaging with Taliban

KABUL: Josep Borrell, chief of the European Foreign Policy says that the EU remained with no choice but to engage with the government of the Islamic Movement of Taliban and maintain its diplomatic mission in Kabul.

Borrell told the European parliament that“embassies of the member states have been closed and they are not going to reopen but we still have a delegation that can be seen …”

He expressed concerns over the rapid collapse of the former government and termed it as a great“tragedy”. He denied the recognition of the Taliban government but stressed Europe has more leverage to remain engaged with the Islamic Movement.

This comes as the Afghanistan International TV Channel reported that the European Parliament urged the EU Union to invite a militia commander, Ahmad Massod to a meeting to discuss the current situation of Afghanistan.
