(MENAFN) According to the president of the European Commission , next year, the European Union is going to host a Summit on European Defense "since it is time to step up for a European Defense Union."
Ursula von der Leyen evaluated the past year and highlighted the main priorities of the EU executive body for the next year.
Von der Leyen underlined the requirement for a European Defense Union, considering the international community’s mission in Afghanistan that ended “so abruptly.”
She further declared that “What has held us back until now is not just a shortfall of capacity, it is the lack of political will,” suggesting three lines of actions to improve the bloc’s defense.
