Iraq: IS assaults leave 3 dead


(MENAFN) Security sources stated that on Tuesday, Sep. 14 two Iraqi army officers and a citizen died in assaults by rebels of the Islamic State (IS) outfit in the provinces of Diyala and Salahudin.

Major Alaa al-Saadi from the provincial police said to Xinhua that in the eastern province of Diyala, Lieutenant Colonel Jassim al-Shimmary, commander of an army battalion, was confirmed dead when a roadside bomb placed by IS rebels exploded close to his military car outside the town of Jalawlaa.

Al-Saadi noted that IS rebels shot at a civilian truck and claimed the life of its driver outside the town of Wajihiyah close to the provincial capital Baquba, around 65 km northeast of Baghdad.

Also in the province, the security forces halted two assaults by IS rebels on military posts in two villages found around 40 km northeast of Baquba, al-Saadi added.
