Merkel calls on W Balkan nations to boost collaboration

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Sep. 14 German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that Germany and the European Union (EU) push the Western Balkan (WB) nations to boost their regional collaboration.

Merkel addressed a joint press meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama in her official visit to Albania: "Germany has its own interest in the membership of the WB countries in the EU, but another cooperation at a regional level is an idea that has been accepted by the EU and Germany."

The WB nations were in diverse phases of turning into a part of the EU, and were also part of the Berlin Process intergovernmental collaboration initiative, which was initiated in 2014.

German Chancellor hailed the Open Balkan initiative, which aspires to recreate the Schengen zone's free flow of people, stating that "it is a cooperation that strengthens the Berlin Process."
