Asian Snooker Championship: Qatar's Al Binali records second straight win in Doha

Doha: Maintaining fine form at the Asian Snooker Championship, Qatari cueist Mohammad Al Binali registered his second consecutive victory in the round robin stage, blanking Yemen's Ahmad Jabhan 4-0 at the Al Messila-luxury collection Resort in Doha yesterday.    

Al Binali was in control from the first frame and was accurate in potting as he sealed win with a 61-43, 67-42, 70-41, 51-39 score-line.  

In his first match, the Qatari defeated Omar Alajlani of Saudi Arabia 4-2 (73-6, 18-69, 15-70, 53-42, 70-54, 61-50).  

Qatar's Ahmed Saif also earned a victory yesterday, defeating Mohammad Rais Senzahi of Afghanistan 4-1. Saif won the first two frames 52-42, 73-33 before dropping the third 38-75, but returned to win the next two 59-49 and 64-17.

Other Qatar cueists -- Ali Al Obaidly, Mansur Al Obaidly, Mohammed Sharshani, Khamis Al Obaidly and Bashar Abdulmajeed, however, ended on the losing side. 

Meanwhile, defending champion Pankaj Advani of India marked a comfortable 80-31, 69-56, 74-44 and 64-7 win against Adbulrahman Saif of UAE. Advani's win yesterday also included a break of 70. 

Pakistan's Babar Masih also clinched impressive 4-1 win against Kuwait's Ahmad Abul, making a comeback after going one frame down. He smashed breaks of 88 and 62 in the third and fourth frames in his 64-68, 83-8, 121-5, 80-9 and 84-43 victory.

Syrian Abdulkarim Maksoud gave a good account of himself blanking Sergelen Batdelger of Mongolia 4-0 (56-28, 62-19, 64-23, 65-18).

The 36th edition of the Asian Snooker Championship, which runs till September 16, is being hosted by Qatar with the participation of 42 cueists representing 19 countries.
