Qatar underlines strengthening joint Arab action, especially during crises

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan Al-Muraikhi underscored the importance of strengthening joint Arab action, especially in the face of crises in the region.
This was in a speech by Al-Muraikhi before the opening session of the 156th ministerial meeting of the Arab League, as he was the head of the previous 155th session, before handing over the presidency of the council to the Foreign Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah.
The period of Qatar's presidency of the Arab League Council witnessed many challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, Al-Muraikhi pointed out.
He underlined that peace is an Arab strategic option and is based on a just solution in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, stressing that Qatar will continue its efforts to achieve the interests of Palestinians and allocate USD 500 million for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
He also referred to Qatar's presiding over an emergency meeting of the League Council to discuss the Israeli attacks in Jerusalem, the attacks on worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque and the seizure of Palestinian homes.
Qatar also hosted a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in mid-June and an emergency meeting, during which Arab support for the Egyptian and Sudanese position on the Renaissance Dam crisis was emphasized, Al-Muraikhi mentioned.
Palestine is the main issue of Arabs, denouncing Israel's practices, the violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque and the siege of Gaza, he said.
Al-Muraikhi underscored the need to guarantee the rights of Palestinians, establish their state on the lands of June 4, 1967, and end the Israeli occupation of Arab lands, including the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.
He urged Palestinians to give priority to national unity and to achieve reconciliation as the best way to confront the occupier.
Al-Muraikhi referred to the humanitarian situation of Syrians and the continuation of killings along with displacement there, adding, the time has come to achieve a political solution that fulfills the interests of Syrians, in accordance with the Geneva Communique 1 and 2.
He renewed the call for all Yemeni forces to stop the military escalation and return to a comprehensive national dialogue.
