Arab League welcomes recent developments in Libya

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Sept 7 (KUNA) -- The Arab League on Tuesday welcomed the latest developments in Libya and the release of eight detainees who have been handed over to the 'Dignitaries and Wisemen Council of Misurata'.
The move comes as part of the continuation of prisoner swabs in accordance with the ceasefire agreement signed on October 23 between the military leaders from Libya's government, and those from opposition forces led by General Khalifa Haftar.
In a statement, the Cairo-based League extolled efforts made in this regard as part of measures taken to build confidence in the next period.
The statement warned against the repetition of sorrowful clashes that broke out over the last period and its negative impacts on the progress made recently on all levels in Libya.
In addition, it affirmed the League's stance, calling for the necessity of holding polls due in December and dismissing foreign military forces out of Libya to ensure fair elections.
On Monday, head of Libyan presidential council Mohammad al-Menfi officially announced a comprehensive national reconciliation initiative, welcoming the release of some officials of the ex-regime. (end)
