Dr Andrew Lavender completed a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science and a Master of Science in Sports Science at Edith Cowan University before beginning PhD at Yokohama City University in 2002. His PhD research was in exercise induced muscle damage in older individuals compared with young participants. Dr Lavender has since worked as a Postdoctoral researcher at The University of Adelaide and The University of Tokyo before taking up an academic position at Curtin University in 2012. In 2020 Dr Lavender took up a Senior Lecturer position at Federation University.

Dr Lavender teaches motor learning and control in the Exercise and Sport Science course in the School of Science, Psychology and Sport at Federation University. He is supervising PhD, masters and honours students whose projects involve exercise induced muscle damage, effects of subconcussion on brain function in human and animal models and the effects of exercise on neuromuscular and cortical function in healthy older people.
