Syria: 4 soldiers killed by rebel’s mortar fire in Daraa

(MENAFN) State news agency SANA said in a report that on Monday, Aug. 30 four Syrian soldiers died and another 15 were injured when local rebels launched mortar rounds on Syrian military checkpoints in Syria’s southern province of Daraa.

It added that the insurgents aimed at military checkpoints and residential locales in Daraa, and a woman and her daughter were amongst the injured people.

The Syrian army retaliated, attacking areas where the mortar shells were launched from.
The official news agency claimed that the assault intended to obstruct the ceasefire attempts in Daraa and destabilize the area.

This occurs as a number of insurgents, who rejected to reconcile with the Syrian army, were evacuated to insurgent-held locales in Idlib province in northwestern Syria during the last few days.
