Saudi authorities to take action against men who cooked 'Kangaroo Mandi'

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) A viral video of men cooking 'Kangaroo Mandi' in Saudi Arabia has quickly sparked controvery online prompting the wildlife development authorities to issue a statement saying that this was in violation of the Kingdom's regulations.

In the video, a man can be seen claiming the benefits of eating kangaroo meat to his friends while the animal sat in a cage in the back of a pick up truck.

He goes on to explain the method to make Mandi, a popular dish that consists mainly of meat and rice cooked with a special blend of spices.

Saudi Arabia's National Center for Wildlife Development said that the men had violated the regulations for trafficking in wildlife and they products. The center had issued a license authorising one of the men to import kangaroo for the purpose of selling and breeding, but not for slaughter.

The statement said the center was coordinating with the Ministry of Interior in regards to the legal procedures authorities will take.

It also urged people to familiarise themselves with the center's regulations and prohibitions to ensure they do not violate any laws.
