GCC chief invited to regional conf. on Iraq


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Aug 26 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf has received an invitation from Iraq to partake in Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership due in the end of this month.
The GCC Secretariat General said in a statement on Thursday that the invitation from Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein was relayed to the secretary general by the Iraqi Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr. Abdulsattar Al-Janabi, during a meeting between the two sides.
The statement quoted Al-Hajraf as affirming the GCC keenness on stability and security of Iraq and support for the country's reconstruction and fighting terrorism.
Al-Hajraf and Al-Janabi discussed cooperation, means of cementing relations and implementation of a previously inked joint action plan.
The GCC, established in early 80s, comprises Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar. (end)
