IMF offers Ukraine SDR 1.9 bln

(MENAFN) First Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Kateryna Rozhkova has declared on Facebook that Ukraine has got 1.9 billion Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), equal to around USD2.7 billion, from the International Monetary Fund.

She noted: "Today, 1.9 billion SDRs came to Ukraine's account from the IMF! A great gift ahead of Independence Day! Glory to Ukraine!"

The IMF Executive Board on July 8 agreed in IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva's proposal for a fresh general SDR allocation equal to USD650 billion – the biggest allocation in the IMF's history – to deal with the long-standing international needs for reserves in the worst catastrophe since the Great Depression. Georgieva pledged to introduce the fresh SDR allocation proposal to the IMF's Board of Governors for their consideration and agreement. Taking into account the size of the country’s quota (0.42%), the state can take around USD2.73 billion.
