Iraq: Shooters detonate 7 power transmission towers in Kirkuk

(MENAFN) Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity stated in a report that on Tuesday, Aug. 10 unidentified shooters bombed seven power transmission towers in the Iraqi northern province of Kirkuk.

The report noted that the assault occurred close to the town of al-Riyadh in the south of the namesake provincial capital Kirkuk, which itself is found around 250 km north of the capital, and damaged the towers that connect Kirkuk with Baiji in the bordering Salahudin province.

The report stated: "up to 27 power transmission towers were sabotaged in the provinces of Nineveh, Kirkuk, and Salahudin within one week," further saying that technical groups joined by the Iraqi security forces have hurried to the site to fix the towers.

In the past few days, a lot of power transmission towers were damaged in the provinces of Salahudin, Kirkuk, Nineveh, and in al-Nebai and Tarmiyah areas north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, which caused the obliteration of towers and power outages in huge areas.
