(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) MIRANSHAH: In another target killing incident in North Waziristan tribal district, a police official was shot dead by unidentified armed men in Mir Ali Bazaar on Tuesday.
District Police Officer (DPO) Shafiullah Khan Gandapur said that Sub-Inspector Muhammad Shafiq was in Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan, for an official task and was going back to his duty station in Shewa when unidentified armed men attacked him Mir Ali Chowk. The police official received multiple bullet injuries and embraced martyrdom on the spot. The attackers fled the scene after committing the crime.
A police team reached the spot immediately and cordoned off the entire area, and launched a search operation.
The martyred police official belonged to Madakhel in Spinwam tehsil. His body was sent for post mortem to Mir Ali Hospital and was later handed over to the family for burial.
According to police, it was a targeted attack. It was second targeted attack in North Waziristan in one week. On July 28, a tribal elder Malik Shaibur Rehman and his friend Malik Kherullah were killed in a similar fashion.
According to police, the two elders were travelling to their village on a motorcycle when they were attacked on Dattakhel road in Miranshah. Police shifted the bodies to hospital for autopsy and later handed them over to the bereaved families for burial.
Target killing incidents are witnessing increase in North Waziristan. On July 24, unidentified armed men shot dead a local cricketer in Harmuz village in Mir Ali. The victim, Wajid, was standing outside his home when unidentified armed men opened fire on him, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police said it is apparently an incident of target killing, and further investigation was underway. Wajid was a well-known cricket player in his area, and his death left the entire area in grief.
Earlier, unknown armed men shot dead a tribal elder in Mir Ali. Police said two men on a motorcycle opened fire at tribal elder Malik Salahuddin in Patassi Adda and escaped. The deceased belonged to Hurmuz village. He had served as head of a local peace committee tasked with maintaining peace and checking movement of miscreants in the area.
