MoFA attends symposium on occasion of World Day Against Trafficking in Persons


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The Department of Human Rights at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) participated yesterday in a virtual symposium organised by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking in cooperation with the United Nations Migration Mission in the State of Qatar, on the occasion of the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

The symposium highlighted Qatar’s efforts to combat human trafficking, identified lessons learned and best practices, and presented potential challenges in this regard.

Director of the Department of Human Rights at MoFA, Dr. Turki bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, gave a presentation on the national mechanism in combating human trafficking, the strategy adopted by the State of Qatar to combat human trafficking and forced labour, and the state’s international obligations in this field, as well as the role of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.

The symposium was attended by Vice-chairman of the National Human Rights Committee Dr. Mohammed Saif Al Kuwari, Chief of Mission of United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Qatar Iman Ereiqat, Ambassador of Nepal to the State of Qatar H E Narad Bharadwaj, Charge d’Affaires at US Embassy H E John Desrocher, and Head of ILO Project Office for the State of Qatar Max Tunon.
