Sums of 81 forest blazes break out in Greece

(MENAFN) In consort with Deputy Minister for Civil Protection and Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias, Greece witnessed the most painful concerns of the worst heat wave reached in the last four decades.

During a press conference on Greek national broadcaster ERT, Hardalias stated that sums of 81 forest blazes started in the country in the previous day, while there were still 40 active blazes across Greek.

He also declared "The largest and most dangerous front is in the north of Athens, on the foothills of Parnitha Mount that broke out earlier, threatening residential areas."

Hardalias continued "We ask everyone in the wider area to be on alert. We give battle to protect human life, to have as little damage as possible, to extinguish the fire and protect the natural environment."

Moreover, what made it harder to control the fires was the mixture of hot temperatures reaching more than 45 degrees Celsius, as well as strong winds rising to Beaufort force 6 and low humidity rates.
