Saving The Lives of a 7-Months Pregnant COVID Patient and Her Pre-Mature Twins in EPIC ICU Rescue Mission.


(MENAFN- Global Advertising) The medical teams at the International Medical Center were able to rescue the live of a Saudi pregnant woman with COViD -19 infection and her 31 weeks' unborn premature twins. The mother become critically ill and suffered multiple organs dysfunction due to Covid -19 complications which put her twins at a great risk of pre-mature labor and complications of prematurity including fetal demise.
Shortly after ICU admission both twins showed signs of significant fetal distress, hence required a robust multidisciplinary decision to deliver her by urgent C-section to save both twins.
An extra ordinary preparations and unique coordination was launched by different medical team; including Neonatal intensive care led by Dr.Rafat Mosalli &Dr.May Abu Ateeq, OBGY led by Dr.Ayman Oraif, and medical administration led by Dr.Ameera Nabet to ensure proper and timely manner delivery of care for both mother and twins.
Albeit short time, a state of art intensive care room was created inside the OR equipped with all necessary resources and interventional technology that are required for both mother and twin’s care, this is together with the application of the most recent infection control standards as per national and international guidelines for COVID-19 infection to ensure the safety of both the medical staff and the twins.
Two separate dedicated teams from NICU were composed in order to give the necessarily and timely manner infant stabilization under infection control surveillance. Throughout the cesarean section the Mother remained clinically stable, both twins, however were delivered in critical condition with poor vital signs including low heart rate, inability to breath, they were successfully resuscitated by NICU team, stabilized and transferred to A highly and advance satellite neonatal intense care room for further managements.
During NICU stay, they were given the necessary medical interventions required for their condition and we were able to wean them off from the respiratory and cardiac support, ultimately Discharged home with their mother in stable and healthy condition.
Finally, the medical team led by Dr. Yousif Alsayed, Chairman of adult Critical Care Unit assured that mother has recovered completely from her illness and now she is now in a good health and start to participate in taking care of her newborns twins.
