DFI-funded film to play in La Biennale di Venezia

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: A Doha Film Institute (DFI) funded short experimental film 'Don’t Get Too Comfortable’ by Shaima Al Tamimi has been selected to play in the Orizzonti Short Film section of the La Biennale di Venezia, DFI announced on Twitter yesterday.

“Delighted to announce that @la_Biennale has selected DON’T GET TOO COMFORTABLE by Shaima Al-Tamimi to play in competition in the Orizzonti Short Film section. A DFI-granted project, it’s the first Yemeni film to screen at the fest across its 78-year history,” the tweet read.

The short documentary highlights the plight of Yemeni migrants as the country remains submerged in a civil war. This heartfelt multimedia letter addressed to Shaima’s paternal grandfather reflects on the intergenerational journey of migration and resettlement and examines the burden of relocation that impacts Yemeni migrants across generations.

Shaima Al-Tamimi is a Yemeni-Kenyan visual storyteller based in the GCC. Her work explores themes such as migration, identity, and social issues through introspection and a deeply-rooted documentary approach.
