Doha: Qatar is likely to reach two million figure of people at least having received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, soon. So far 1,96 5,422 people have received at least one dose under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program.
The rollout has sped up over the past days with over 20,000 vaccines being administered per day. According to data released by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) yesterday, as many as 21,461 vaccine doses were administered in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,636,272 doses had been administered. As many as 1,670,850 people have received both doses.
Under the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program 79% of the eligible population have now received at least one dose of the vaccine, 98.6% of over 60s (the most vulnerable population group) have been vaccinated with at least one dose, while 93.5% have received both.
With the increase in number of people vaccinated, the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 has been controlled in the country.
The Ministry reported 114 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday and among them 45 were travellers. 127 people have recovered from the virus during 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases recovered in Qatar to 222,727.
Number of hospital and ICU admission has also reduced in the country. There was one admission in intensive care in 24 hours and 30 people continue to receive medical attention in ICU.
There were eight cases of hospital admissions in 24 hours taking the total number of patients in the hospital to 60. The Ministry also said that, in recent weeks the combined impact of COVID-19 restrictions and increasing vaccination rates, and the overwhelming support of the community have resulted in a consistent reduction in the number of new daily infections in the country.“However, it is still important to be cautious as the second wave is not yet over and there are still two highly contagious and highly virulent strains of the virus that are actively circulating in the community,” said the Ministry.
Phase three of the Gradual Lifting of Restrictions began on July 9. The plan to gradually lift restrictions will be delivered over four phases with each phase lasting three weeks. “The date of implementation and the duration of each next phase will depend on the epidemic indicators, which depend to a great extent on the degree of compliance of the community members with the current measures, restrictions and guidance by the government,” said the Ministry.“For now, it is important that people, including those who are vaccinated, continue to wear a mask as advised and maintain social distancing,” it added.
