Global coronavirus update


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, July 20 (KUNA) -- A number of countries across the globe on Tuesday declared the deaths, infections and recoveries of the coronavirus (COVID-19) over the past 24 hours.
France listed 18,181 more infections and 33 deaths, taking the total to 5,890,062 and death toll to 111,525 respectively.
French President Emmanuel Macron declared a number of new measures to combat the fourth wave of the virus, in light of the Delta variant.
Minister of State for European Affairs Clement Beaune said on Monday that he did not rule out re-imposing a curfew across the country to curb the spread of the pandemic if cases continue surging.
Meanwhile, Spain declared 29 new mortalities and 27,286 infections in 24 hours.
The new figures took the total infections and death toll to 4,189,136 and 81,148 respectively since the outbreak of the pandemic, the ministry of health said in a statement posted on its website.
In another statement, the ministry added that 24.3 million people received two doses of the anti-coronavirus vaccine, while 29.6 million others obtained one shot.
Furthermore, Italy reported 10 deaths and 2,072 infections of the virus in 24 hours.
These figures raised the number of confirmed deaths to 127,884 and infections to 4,293,083 since the outbreak of the pandemic, the ministry of health said in a statement.
It noted that some 1,359 patients, including 165 at ICUs, are receiving treatment at hospitals.
In a related development, Algeria said that 1,298 people tested positive for the virus, bringing the total to 155,784.
As many as 23 people died of the virus, pushing the death toll up to 3,979, Dr. Jamal Furar, spokesman of COVID-19 Monitoring and Follow-up Committee, said.
The number of recoveries rose by 704 to 107,041, he added.
Yemen said it listed one death and five new infections over the past 24 hours.
The number of infections, death toll and recoveries in the governorates led by the legitimate government rose to 6,992, 1,371 and 4,162 respectively.
Moreover, Iraq proclaimed 59 deaths and 8,922 infections, taking the total cases to 1,510,517.
The number of death toll and recoveries hit 17,951 and 1,372,158, Iraq's ministry of health said in a statement.
The number of people obtained the anti-virus vaccine reached 1,184,145, it noted. (Pickup previous)
