Iran: Demonstration over water stress leaves 1 dead in Shaedgan


(MENAFN) Official news agency IRNA said in a report that on Friday evening, Jul. 16 one person died in the southwestern Iranian town of Shadegan in the demonstration over water stress amidst a serious drought.

Acting county governor Omid Sabripour declared early on Saturday: "last night, some people gathered in Shadegan to protest over the stressful situation of water supply caused by drought, and opportunists and rioters shot dead one of the protesters."

Sabripour noted that during the rally, demonstrators fired in the air to instigate the people and unluckily one of the bullets hit the person at the site.

He further said that police are trying to find the perpetrators of the incident.
