Algerian president names finance minister as new premier

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ALGIERS, June 30 (KUNA) -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Wednesday named Finance Minister Aimene Benabderrahmane as prime minister, to be tasked with forming the first cabinet following recent elections.
The Algerian Presidency said in a statement the president tasked the new premier to hold consultations with political parties and leaders of the civil society to form a new cabinet succeeding that of Abdelaziz Djerad who tendered his government's resignation following the polls, held on June 12.
The newly assigned premier had served as the governor of the central bank before he was named as finance minister to serve within the first cabinet after the presidential elections, held in December 2019.
Djerad tendered the resignation on Thursday after the constitutional council declared final results of the legislative elections, held on June 12 -- in line with the constitution.
The Algerian president had asked Djerad to pursue his cabinet's duties on caretaking basis. (end)
