Abu Dhabi, UAE: Abu Dhabi Center Waste Management Center (Tadweer) has hosted a series of specialized technical training sessions as part of the Center's continued efforts to upskill workforce across various roles and departments, especially those who are tasked with field operations, in the effective management of pest control projects.
In conducting these sessions, Tadweer aimed to improve the efficiency and quality of its pest control services, and to keep up with the latest technologies, tools, methods, research results and scientific studies in this domain.
Led by International lecturers and specialists from outside the UAE, the training sessions were conducted at Tadweer's dedicated training centers that use simulated models and scenarios of pest control operations.
Comprising state-of-the-art training rooms fitted out with all technical equipment needed for training purposes, these centers are located across of Abu Dhabi, and are used to provide relevant entities with technical information and to create public awareness about the Center's services.
In view of the precautionary measures taken by Tadweer to prevent the spread of Covid-19 pandemic and to ensure public safety, the training programs were conducted virtually using remote communication tools. Training programs targeted all Tadweer employees from leadership, supervisory and technical positions, in addition to customer services staff.
Running for a month, the training programs drew the participation of all workers in pest control department as well as the companies contracted with the Center.
Tadweer's latest training sessions covered pests control due to its direct impact on public health and its important role in preventing various diseases transmitted to humans.
The topics of the training programs included a general introduction to pest control, insect classification and its significance, environmental factors, life cycles and behavior of pests, as well as diseases transmitted by them. The sessions also tackled the challenges facing pest control operations. In addition to customers satisfaction general aspects & latest technologies in pest control field.
Focused on pesticide resistance management strategies and pesticide development and use, the training programs offered useful tips on safety procedures when using chemicals and specialized equipment. In addition, it outlined the advantages of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and the implementation and sustainability of IPM programs.
Furthermore, the training programs incorporated the latest developments, innovations and methods in identifying and controlling dangerous pests such as snakes, scorpions and spiders, and the calibration of pest control equipment such as hand and high-pressure sprayers, and thermal fogger machines.
The training programs included an introduction to biosecurity, its objectives, components and impact on integrated pest management.
Engineer Mohammed Mahmood Al Marzouqi, Pest Control Projects Director at Tadweer, said: ''It is a top priority for Tadweer to keep up with the latest developments and research findings in pest control domain to ensure the continuous skill development of our workforce and enable them to deliver their tasks in the best possible manner.

Therefore, we are keen to develop specialized training programs that best match the training needs of all our employees and technical staff.

Lecturer Bios:
- Professor Ron Harrison is an American academic expert and international training specialist in the field of pest control. He holds a PhD in entomology from the University of Georgia, USA, and has published numerous research papers and studies in this field.
He supervised many research projects and studies by students from various academic levels, and participated in multiple committees tasked with developing curricula and educational programs, both theoretical and practical, for various American universities and specialized research centers. He has also participated in specialized conferences, seminars and workshops on pest control in the US and different countries across the globe.
- Dr. Muhammad Al Demair holds a Ph.D. in botany and soil science, and is an expert in entomology from the University of Vermont, USA. He is currently working as a consultant in entomology and serves as the director of the technical and training department. He has delivered numerous lectures in the USA and published many papers in entomology.
- Professor Ahmed Muhammad Al Majali – Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Jordan University of Science and Technology. He holds a PhD in comparative disease biology and clinical sciences from Purdue University, USA. He also serves as a professor of infectious diseases and technical adviser to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
