Egypt Retrieves Three Smuggled Artefacts From Britain

(MENAFN- Nam News Network) CAIRO, Jun 25 (NNN-MENA) – Egypt retrieved three illegally smuggled artefacts from Britain, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities said yesterday.

The Egyptian ambassador to the United Kingdom, received the three antiquities that date back to the Pharaonic and Greek eras, according to a statement, issued by the ministry.

The three pieces include a Greco-Roman statue, a part of a Pharaonic wooden coffin, and a sarcophagus, said the ministry.

The process of retrieving the artefacts was coordinated between the Egyptian embassy and the British Museum, after contacting a renowned museum in London, that was going to buy the smuggled pieces.

As one of the most ancient civilisations, Egypt has been working hard to protect and preserve its rich archaeological treasures and historical heritage.– NNN-MENA
