Taliban assault repelled, car bombing halted on northern Afghan city


(MENAFN) Army spokesperson in the northern region captain Abdul Razaq stated that on Saturday, Jun. 19 Taliban militants' assault on northern Afghan Kunduz city has been repelled and the militants ran away after suffering losses.

Razaq said to Xinhua: "Taliban rebels launched massive offensive on Kunduz city early Saturday but fled away after suffering casualties and leaving six bodies behind."

The assaulting militants were also trying to blow up an explosive-laden military car next to a military base outside Kunduz city, but was recognized and aimed at by soldiers.

The official further said that as a consequence a few more rebels in the car died.
