Qatar Scientific Club ready for Virtual Science Challenge 2021


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The Qatar Scientific Club (QSC) has completed its preparations for the launch of ‘Virtual Science Challenge 2021’, which will start during mid-June and last for a month.

This came in a circular issued by the Youth Affairs Department of the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The method of presenting the activity for this year will also be in the manner of communication and distance education, following the precautionary measures approved by the competent authorities in the country.

Eng Saleh Al Abdullah, the supervisor of the digital fabrication lab at QSC and the supervisor of the summer camp, said that the activity during the summer for this year will be under the slogan of the Virtual Science Challenge Virtual STEM, and until the summer camp appears in an integrated manner and meets the aspirations of the participants and their families. 

A work team was formed for the camp to present the foundations and arrangements of the activity that depend in its scientific aspect on the four pillars of STEM, which are science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

QSC through the summer camp aims to achieve a set of goals, the most important of which is developing the capabilities of participants in scientific fields and implanting a spirit of challenge to obtain the desired results in addition to encouraging participants to think innovatively and positive interaction during the implementation of projects.

The specialised work team took a set of recommendations that define the course of the summer camp and clarify its features.

The participation should be through dividing age groups according to the specific and appropriate type of activity for each category, and the camp programs vary into several scientific workshops.

The youth category will be able to implement a project for a meteorological station that relies on modern technologies in meteorology and enables the participant to obtain all the pieces for training and use at home to read weather conditions.

In addition, they will receive training on the installation and use of drone and identifying the technology used in this type of aircraft and others things and how to employ technology in space. 

As for the category of young people, who are from 11 to 14 years old, they will participate during the period from July 4 to July 7 and will be devoted to topics focused on scientific projects in the field of electronic circuits, software and engineering design skills. 

As for the category of young people from the age of 7 to 10 years, they will participate in preparing the generation of future scientists and focusing in their programs on interactive science skills. 

Two groups have been assigned for this, the first group from June 15 to July 6 and will be in cooperation with Studio 6/5, a digital manufacturing laboratory affiliated with the Ministry of Transport and Communications. 

The studio aims to improve the capabilities of the participants by developing their scientific skills in the environment of the digital era. Programs related to coding and designing robots will be presented, while the second group will continue from June 27 to 30 June and includes topics related to storage energy and chemical and physical interactive science experiments.

An interactive virtual scientific program has been scheduled for young people from 15 to 39 years, under the direct supervision of the Youth Affairs Department of the Ministry of Culture and Sports under the name of a youth virtual event.

This program will take place during the period from July 11 to 15, in which the Qatar Scientific Club will participate in a series of events and programs for young people. They are specialised workshops and will be held daily with a set of interactive competitions for the participants.
