British PM urges EU for compromise over ongoing problems


(MENAFN)British Prime Minister Boris Johnson called on the EU for “pragmatism and compromise” over the continuing problems with the Northern Ireland protocol.

Assembly the EU leaders, Ursula Von der Leyen and Charles Michelle, in addition to French president and German chancellor, on the sidelines of ongoing G7 summit in Cornwall, England, Johnson stated that he was looking for “urgent and innovative solutions” to the issues of the protocol.

According to a statement said in his assembly with European Commission President Von der Leyen and European Council head Charles Michel, “The prime minister made it clear that the UK is committed to finding practical solutions within the framework of the Protocol which protect the aims of the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement and minimise the impact on the day to day lives of people in Northern Ireland.”

"They agreed on the need for continued meaningful engagement to resolve the outstanding issues."
