Atmar in Herat to discuss joint projects with Turkmen officials

KABUL: Afghan and Turkmen officials met in western Herat province on Saturday to discuss join projects between the two countries.

Foreign Minister MohmmadHanifAtmar leading a high level delegation visited Herat province to exchange views with his Turkmen counterpart regarding implementation, expansion of infrastructure projects, trade, transport, energy transfer and the TAPI project, said Hamid Tahzeb deputy spokesman of foreign minister.

Afghanistan and Turkmenistan signed a strategic partnership agreement for expansion of political, economic and security ties two years back.

The ministry of foreign affairs also said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation agreements and contracts for major transport and investment projects will be signed between Afghan and Turkmen officials.

Earlier, presidents of Afghanistan and Turkmenistan inaugurated three infrastructure projects in the areas of iron, energy and fiber optics online on 1399 Persian year.

 TAPI Pipeline project is one of the biggest gas transit project in the region, inaugurated in 1396 solar year which transfers gas from Turkmenistan to India and Pakistan through Afghanistan.
