São Paulo – Students from six Arab countries can apply for free undergraduate courses in Brazil in 2022. Registration is open for the Exchange Program for Undergraduate Students (PEC-G), which allows foreigners from nations with which Brazil has cooperation, preferably developing countries, to study at universities in the country. Citizens of 68 nations in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, Oceania, and Europe can apply, including Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, and Tunisia.
Registration is open until July 20 this year. To apply, the student must have completed or be in the last year of the educational course corresponding to high school in Brazil in any of the countries listed and present oneself at the Brazilian embassy or consulate to apply. The student cannot be a Brazilian citizen, even if having dual citizenship, according to information released by the Brazilian Ministry of Education, which carries out the program alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It is also necessary to be a citizen and live in the country participating in the PEC-G, be 18 years old or over, have a Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese for Foreigners (Celpe-Bras) or, if you are from a country where there is no application of Celpe-Bras, take the exam in Brazil after completing a Portuguese course for foreigners. Among other requirements, the student must prove that he or she can support himself financially during the study. PEC-G does not offer scholarships, only free study. The final result of the selection process comes out on October 29, 2021.
Some documents must be presented at the embassy or consulate at the time of registration (check the notice below). The Ministry of Education recommends that the candidate inquires about the educational institutions that offer the desired course in Brazil before looking for the diplomatic body and that the student also seeks to know the time and conditions of attendance, which may have been changed due to the pandemic.
There are about 300 courses offered, and among the participating Brazilian universities are the University of Brasília (UnB) (pictured above), the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), the Ceará State University (UECE), the University of the Amazon (Unama), the University of São Paulo (USP), The Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), in a list of over 100 institutions.
