10-Member Panel Formed To Tackle ''Third Wave'' in J&# K

Srinagar: As Jammu and Kashmir continues to battle the second wave of deadly coronavirus infection, the Union Territory administration has constituted a 10-member panel for formulating a strategy to meet a possible ''third wave'' of the pandemic.

In an order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) on Tuesday, the former Director of the SK institute of medical sciences (SKIMS) Dr M.S. Khuroo has been named as the Chairman of the ten member committee for formulating an action plan for tackling a possible third wave of Covid-19 in the Union Territory.

Dr Shakti Gupta, Executive Director and CEO AIIMS, Jammu will be the Co-Chairman of the panel. Other members include Director SKIMS Dr A G Ahangar, Principal GMC Srinagar Dr Samia Rashid, Director (Coordination) New Medical Colleges J & K and Managing Director JKMSCL Dr Yashpal Sharma, Mission Director NHM J & K Yasin Choudhary, Head of the department PSM, GMC Srinagar Dr Saleem, Head of the department Paediatrics, GMC Srinagar Dr Muzaffer Jan, Head of the department Chest Diseases, GMC Jammu Dr Rahul Gupta and Sr resident Administrator, Department of hospital administration, AIIMS Delhi Dr Khalid.

According to the terms of reference, the panel has been asked to prepare an action plan for tackling a “possible third wave of COVID-19 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with special focus on preparedness in terms of creation of health infrastructure, enhancement in testing capacities, treatment protocols, arrangement of essential drugs/logistics, machinery and equipments, oxygen supply, manpower, etc.

The committee has also been tasked to ramp up COVID hospital beds and Critical Care Units especially for Paediatrics/Neo-natal age group, which is likely to be affected more.

''Strengthening of Healthcare/COVID Care facilities in the rural areas of the Union Territory and devising additional COVID appropriate behaviour and SOPs/ guidelines that are required,'' reads the order issued by Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Commissioner/ Secretary to the government.
