EU to expand sustainable maritime financial system for carbon neutrality


(MENAFN)The European Commission on Monday, May 17, vowed to widen a sustainable blue economy in a try to attain carbon neutrality in 2050.

"We add the blue dimension to the European Green Deal," stated European Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevicius, who is in charge of Environment, Oceans and Fisheries at the Commission. The Green Deal is the EU's lead agenda to attain carbon neutrality in 2050.

By blue economy, the Commission submits to all industries working with or in close proximity to seas and oceans, counting fisheries, aquaculture, coastal tourism, maritime transport, port activities and shipbuilding.

It offers service to 4.5 million people in the EU, with an income of more than 650 billion euros (USD789.75 billion).
