May 24 and 25 declared a special holiday

May 24th and 25th have been declared a special holiday by the Government.

The Ministry of Public Administration announced that the decision has been taken by the Government. 

The Ministry further said the Government holidays do not include banks or the mercantile sector.

The Government holidays have been announced at a time when an islandwide travel ban will be in effect.

An will be enforced from the 21st-25th May and 25th -28th May, as a measure to contain the rapidly spreading coronavirus in Sri Lanka.

The Vesak festival also falls on the 26th of May, with the Government canceling all and any celebrations due to the coronavirus situation in the country. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance has announced that the salaries of Government employees for the month of May will be paid on the 21st of May.

The Ministry said the decision has been taken due to the prevailing coronavirus situation in the country. (Colombo Gazette)
