India: Many wounded as farmers, police fight in Haryana

(MENAFN) Officials stated that on Sunday, May. 16 a lot of people comprising police officers were wounded in India as demonstrating farmers fought with police in the northern state of Haryana.

The fight took place in Hisar, around 243 km southwest of Chandigarh, Haryana capital city.

Police shot dozens of tear smoke shells so as to separate the demonstrators, who went through barricades and attempted to break into the venue where Haryana's Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had arrived to inaugurate a 500-bed hospital for treating coronavirus patients.

The farmers in the state were demonstrating against three contentious farm laws approved by India’s administration in November 2020.
