UN Security Council calls on end to aggression amidst Israeli-Palestinian conflict

(MENAFN) On Sunday, May. 16 as the Israeli-Palestinian tension keeps intensifying, the United Nations (UN) Security Council held an open discussion on the condition, in which nations around the world urged a direct cessation of the bloodshed.

Clashes between Palestinians and Israelis at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem's Old City have escalated after a court ruling that attempted to force a number of Palestinian families to leave their houses in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem.

After hundreds of Palestinian people were wounded in confrontations with Israeli police in East Jerusalem in the past week, Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip, fired rocket assaults towards Israel, which responded with strong air raids against positions in Gaza.

The most violent confrontation between both sides since 2014 has claimed the life of almost 200 Palestinians and around 10 Israelis.
