Qatari medical aid reaches India


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: A shipment of medical aid from the State of Qatar to the Republic of India arrived on Thursday at New Delhi airport on board Qatari Amiri Air Force aircraft to support India’s current efforts to address the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar said in a statement on its website that Qatari aid was received at New Delhi Airport by Director of the Gulf Division at the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India H E Avtar Singh; Acting Charge d’Affairs at the Embassy of the State of Qatar to India, Ali bin Mohammed Al Badi and Second Secretary, Rashid bin Ali Al Marri.

The Qatari aid to India contained therapeutic drugs, medical devices, and various medical consumables, the most important of which are 4,300 Remdesivir for injection, 200 oxygen concentrators, and 40 ventilators.

Official Spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs of India, Arindam Bagchi has also thanked Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatari government for sending aid to support India fight COVID-19 pandemic. 

''Taking forward our deep-rooted friendship & multi-faceted cooperation. Grateful to H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani the Amir of the State of Qatar & the government of Qatar for the gift of 200 oxygen concentrators, 40 ventilators & 4,300 Remdesivir vials,” Arindam Bagchi tweeted sharing picture of arrival of aid materials.

Delhi Customs Zone also shared pictures of the arrival of aid from Qatar. ''Delhi Customs facilitated expeditious clearance of oxygen concentrators, ventilators & Remdesivir arriving from Qatar,” Delhi Customs Zone tweeted. Delhi Customs Zone is run by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

To recall since the beginning of this month, Indian community in Qatar had also dispatched medical supplies like oxygen cylinders to India on a naval ship, which came to Qatar on a visit.

Oxygen cylinders and other materials to help fight COVID-19 second wave in India had been arranged by Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF). 

A total of 200 oxygen cylinders and 43 oxygen concentrators were shipped by INS Kolkata, an Indian Navy Vessel, to India.
