Japan allocates USD 4.5M to support population, restore territories of eastern Ukraine


(MENAFN- UkrinForm)The Japanese government is allocating USD 4.5 million to support the population of Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as to restore these territories.

Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov said this during a press conference at the Club of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on May 14, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The very thing that the Japanese government and our international partners are doing today is just for the sake of the people ... This year, projects worth USD 4.5 million will be implemented. The funds will be used to improve the quality and efficiency of work in medical institutions that belong to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, help people who are deprived of their liberty, help the wounded and sick, provide medical assistance and physical rehabilitation measures, and introduce community support initiatives, etc." Reznikov said.

He noted that Japan, together with the UN and the ICRC, is already organizing a number of important projects in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, namely: 400 houses damaged by the hostilities have already been restored; projects have been implemented in the field of youth education, community development; assistance has been provided in the field of health protection of the military personnel in Ukraine.

Reznikov thanked the Japanese government, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the UN for their unconditional and consistent support to Ukraine. He also thanked for humanitarian aid for Donetsk and Luhansk regions, some areas of which are still under occupation, where people suffer from the consequences of Russia's armed aggression.

As reported, Japan has been providing humanitarian aid to people affected by the conflict in eastern Ukraine since 2014. The total amount of financial assistance is USD 55.9 million.
