Public urged to follow precautions during Eid celebrations


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Eid Al Fitr celebrations begin today amid COVID-19 restrictions in the country.

The Government Communications Office (GCO) and the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) have urged the people to follow precautions during the Eid holidays.

''It is vital that precautionary measures continue to be followed during the blessed Eid Al Fitr to ensure the safety of our families and society and to support the ongoing efforts of the State of Qatar in limiting the spread of COVID-19,” said GCO on its Twitter account.

It also reminded people to wear masks and maintain social distancing during prayers at the mosques, and that indoor gatherings are prohibited as well as maximum of five fully vaccinated people are allowed to gather outside. Health sector’s medical and administrative staff congratulated the people of Qatar on Eid Al Fitr stressing the importance of adhering to prevention guidelines.

Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al Thani, Director of Public Health at MoPH said: ''We urge everyone to fully adhere to the preventive measures during Eid prayer and to avoid physical contact. We recall the Cabinet’s decision to prevent social gatherings and visits in homes and majalis and allowing only five fully vaccinated people to gather outdoors.”

Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad, National Lead for Healthy Ageing on the Qatar National Health Strategy has also emphasised on the importance of following the list of restrictions released by the Ministry. She also advised people to greet the elderly without touching them and avoid elders giving gifts such as money to children.

Dr. Ahmed Mohammed, Acting Chairman of Hamad Medical Corporation’s Intensive Care Units, has reminded the public that Eid celebrations now are different from how it used to be. He urged the public to avoid crowded places, home visits, going to malls and ensure the safety of everyone by adhering to preventive measures.
