Contacts of traveler with Indian variant investigated

(MENAFN- Newsroom Panama) The seven direct contacts of a sailor who was detected with the Indian variant of Covid-19   when he arrived at Tocumen International are being investigated and the results of the analyses will be known on Tuesday or Wednesday says   Israel Cedeño, director of the Metropolitan Health Region of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

He emphasized that all direct and indirect contacts of that person in the country are being studied including tests on the first people who attended him.

Samples were taken from those people, then they were isolated. Of those who tested positive for Covid-19, sequencing must be performed to verify which variant they have of the coronavirus.

On the afternoon of May 7, Minsa reported that the first case in Panama of the India variant was detected in a traveler at the Tocumen International Airport. The passenger was immediately isolated and all the analyzes established in the protocols were carried out.

"The sequencing was carried out by the Gorgas Memorial Institute, which reports the case of this variant from India, and currently the person is in quarantine under strict monitoring," said Minsa.
