Latvia, Ukraine leaders ink joint declaration on Ukraine's EU incorporation


(MENAFN) The Latvian president's spokesperson Justine Deicmane said that on Saturday, May. 8 Latvia’s President Egils Levits and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky inked a joint statement on Ukraine's further incorporation with the European Union (EU).'

In the statement, Latvia promised support to Ukraine on its path to EU membership as soon as it fulfills the qualification conditions for beginning accession negotiations with the bloc. The two nations also commit to work jointly to help Ukraine incorporate with the EU and conduct the planned reforms, which will allow Ukraine to apply for EU membership.

In the online assembly with Zelensky, Levits confirmed Latvia's backing for Ukraine's territorial integrity and noted that Latvia is all set to share its reform management experience with Ukraine.

Levits expressed hope that Ukraine will complete all the needed reforms and turn into a fully-fledged EU member in this decade.
