Morocco halts illicit immigration endeavors in Mediterranean, arrests 19


(MENAFN) On Saturday, May. 8 Morocco declared that it has halted an illicit immigration endeavor over the Mediterranean and detained 19 persons.

Official news agency MAP noted that in the operation, the police detained in the coast of the northern city of El Hoceima one person for suspected participation in human trafficking and migrant smuggling and confiscated two boasts.

On Friday, the police detained eight would-be immigrants and one person in the northern city of Nador for suspected links with a criminal group operating in the organization of illicit immigration.

MAP said in a report that a Moroccan navy unit active in the Mediterranean on Friday evening foiled a drug trafficking drive and confiscated 3 tonnes of cannabis off the coast of Nador.
