(MENAFN)U.S. employers employed fewer employees than anticipated in April in spite of a vast incentive package that witnessed the government send USD1,400 (£1,000) cheques to the majority of Americans.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, just 266,000 jobs were added in April and the joblessness rate increased to 6.1 percent.
It stated that a hiring spree among leisure and hospitality businesses was offset by dropping courier numbers.
In all, 9.8 million stay unemployed.
In February 2020, before lockdowns forced millions into joblessness, 5.7 million people were out of work.
