International outcry sparked following explosions near a girls'' school in Kabul city on Saturday.
The US, UK, Germany, and the united nations condemned the attack which left 58 civilians including school children dead and wounded over 150 people.
According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs, three bombs were exploded in which the initial explosion was due to a car bomb.
US State Department in an issued statement called the attack ''barbarous'' and urged for an immediate ceasefire.
''The United States condemns the barbarous attack near a girls'' school in Kabul, Afghanistan,'' US State Department said.
United States will continue to support and remain a partner to the Afghan people.
''We will continue to support and partner with the people of Afghanistan, who are determined to see to it that the gains of the past two decades aren''t erased'', the statement read.
President Ashraf Ghani on the other hand blamed the Taliban for the attack and vowed that perpetrators involved in the attack will face tough consequences.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also called the attack ''horrific'' and condemned it.
He added that those responsible for such ''heinous crime'' must be held accountable, and urged for a peaceful settlement and ending violence.
UK envoy to Kabul, Alison Blake strongly condemned the attack saying ''Children must never be the target of violence''.
''Our sympathies and deepest condolences to the families and all affected by this atrocious attack on schoolchildren in Kabul'', she added, ''words are not enough. Those responsible must be brought to justice and held to account''.
In a statement, the German Embassy in Kabul condemned the attack on Sayed
Shuhada girls high school saying ''killing children is an assault on the future of Afghanistan''.
''Our thoughts are with victims of this despicable act and their families. Our deepest condolences to families and friends of the murdered students'', the statement read.
UNCEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore said violence around schools is not tolerable.
She said: ''Schools should be a place of peace and a place where children can play, learn and socialize with a sense of security and safety''.
''Children should never and under no circumstances be the target of violence.
''UNICEF urges the warring parties to abide by international human rights and humanitarian law and to ensure the safety and security of all children,'' Fore added.
Moreover, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Pakistani Foreign Minister also condemned the girls high school attack and the killing of innocent children.
''We stand by the people and government of Afghanistan in their fight against terrorism and will continue to support Afghanistan on its path to peace, progress, and prosperity,'' Qureshi stressed.
